Annual Impact Report
Dear Community Members and Friends,
In the fall of 2024, Design Museum Everywhere became CoDesign Collaborative.
This milestone marks our evolution and commitment to the power of design as a catalyst for social good. Over the past fifteen years, our work has grown into a collaborative movement driven by creatives to co-create solutions for our most pressing challenges. Our new name embodies the collective spirit of our mission and the individuals and organizations that help to make that work possible. “CoDesign” thrives in partnership, dialogue, and shared responsibility. We believe the most powerful solutions emerge when diverse voices and perspectives come together.
As you read the 2024-2025 Annual Impact Report, we encourage you to reflect on the ways our programming, research, and education initiatives continue to expand opportunities for participation. This transformation could not have been possible without our supporters, partners, and community. Thank you for being part of our this journey, and for believing in the power of design to create a more just and sustainable world!
With appreciation,
Liana Mestas Aidan Borer Ashley Dunn
Interim Executive Director Chair, Board of Directors Vice Chair, Board of Directors

Field Trips & Community Meetups
Field Trips are behind-the-scenes explorations of cutting-edge technology centers, innovation hubs, design studios, and other inspiring spaces. Each visit provides a unique opportunity to engage with the creative minds and pioneering organizations that are redefining the boundaries of design and social impact!
Community Meetups are opportunities for new and old friends of the CoDeCo community to connect, network, and learn in spaces outside of their professional settings—because design is everywhere.
Autodesk Technology Center (Boston) | Nestled in Boston’s dynamic Seaport Innovation District, the Autodesk Technology Center stands as a beacon of innovation, bridging the gap between digital design and physical fabrication. In July 2024, CoDesign Collaborative explored this cutting-edge facility, and were in awe of the possibilities it unlocks for designers, engineers, and researchers alike.
MIT Museum (Cambridge) | Inspired by Unfold: The Emerging Technologies Issue, we visited the AI: Mind The Gap exhibit at the MIT Museum. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the museum is a hub of science and technology that showcases technology-related artworks, artificial intelligence, architecture, robotics, and the history of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology itself. From friendly robots to emotion detection, biased data and deep fakes, our group walked away with a new appreciation for the scientists developing this technology, as well as the ethics and safety boundaries to be mindful of.
Pedalpalooza (Portland) | Portland’s Central Eastside is a testament to the city’s rich industrial history, where old warehouses have been transformed into vibrant spaces for craftspeople and artists. As part of the annual Pedalpalooza festival, a community of cycling enthusiasts gathered for a unique meetup and bike ride to explore this dynamic district.
South End Architectural Walking Tour (Boston) | In the spring, we joined David Hacin, FAIA—President and Creative Director of Hacin—on a walking tour of his South End neighborhood. As a longtime resident and architect, Hacin provided first-hand insight into the area’s evolution over the past thirty years, weaving together its historic charm and modern resurgence. From the iconic bow-front townhouses of Union Park to the energetic SoWa Art and Design District, the tour offered a rich narrative of community and transformation.
RISD Museum (Providence) | CoDesign Collaborative members took the train to Providence to visit The Art of French Wallpaper Design at the RISD Museum before it closed on May 12, 2025. The exhibition explored the vibrant and surprising designs that adorned walls in the 1700s and 1800s, presenting more than one-hundred rare and striking samples of salvaged wallpapers, borders, fragments, and design drawings. Our group was taken by the creative process and technical skills involved in producing the wallpaper panels, from wood-block engraving to hand-painting neoclassical architectural fantasies, lush florals, and exotic vistas. The decorative, storytelling backdrops bridged fine art and industrial design.
Education
We are committed to investing in the next generation of creatives. In fiscal year 2025, we launched FREE Student Membership and The Current—two new educational programs designed to welcome young people into our community by fostering connection and growth through design learning. For kids and families, we partnered with the City of Boston and Minni to offer free, hands-on design workshops for our Boston chapter.
Kids and Families
In the fall of 2024, we partnered with Minni to expand access for Boston families to hands-on design-learning workshops through the City of Boston's Wake Up The Night initiative. Minni's South End space opened to families for FREE evening workshops in October, November, and December. Each workshop focused on codesign—design that centers community and collaboration. Families enjoyed creative play and messy materials while being introduced to deeper themes of design impact. Special thanks to Kelly Harris Smith, Founder and CreativeDirector of Minni, and to the City of Boston for their partnership and collaboration.
FREE STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
CoDesign Collaborative launched the FREE Student Membership program for students ages 13+ to engage future designers during their time of study at no cost. We have an active and growing community of Student Members from Boston, Portland, Grand Rapids, London, and beyond. Help us to foster engagement by sharing this program with students you know!
The Current
In spring 2025, we launched The Current: virtual, student-led lightning talks that highlight vital topics in design. Through these student-curated conversations, we met the emerging voices shaping the future of design and the creative leaders at the forefront of design impact. Topics from the pilot season included intergenerational community design, inclusive fashion, design facilitation and community practices, and sustainability. This program is made possible through collaboration with Jennifer Rittner, who serves on the Council and is the Assistant Professor of Strategic Design and Management and Assistant Dean of Curriculum + Learning for Parsons School of Design.
