About Us

Welcome to CoDesign Collaborative! We are a participatory organization that aims to build community with creative problem-solvers in the service of designing for social impact. You may know our nonprofit as Design Museum Everywhere. In Fall 2024, we became CoDesign Collaborative to reflect the collective spirit of our mission.

MISSION

Our mission is to inspire social change through the transformative power of design. We believe design is for everyone, and when done well, it can support a more beautiful, just, and sustainable world.

VISION

Our vision is to help more people design for good. We believe the most powerful solutions emerge through diverse perspectives, partnership, dialogue, and shared responsibility.

COMMUNITY

Our community represents a national cohort of creatives who share our mission and vision. We work to build community and provide learning, resources, tools, and best practices for centering social impact in design.

Our Work

We pursue our mission through Events and Programs, Publications, and Education Initiatives.

Events and Programming

We provide practical tools, strategies, and opportunities to strengthen creative leadership and collaboration across our community through ongoing professional development workshops.
We connect our community with thought leadership through lightning talks and forums that spark conversation, the exchange of ideas, and pose solutions through design innovation.
We host Field Trips and Third Space events that provide our members and the public opportunities to connect with others within and beyond the creative community through exploration.

Publications

Our Publications platform design impact in action.

Unfold is our biannual publication (formerly Design Museum Magazine). Each issue features a guest editor and explores a critical topic, with contributions from our community and beyond!

Bespoke Bodies: The Design & Craft of Prosthetics is a 200-page publication featuring the past, present, and future of prosthetic design and impact. The book is an accompanying resource to CoDesign Collaborative’s exhibition of the same name.
Design & Play is inspired by our Extraordinary Playscapes exhibition. The publication showcases inspirational play spaces, historical context, and stories behind what’s possible when play and design come together.

Education Initiatives

The CoDesign Student Challenge is annual summer program that provides teens with hands-on design education in partnership with leading brands, industry professionals, and clients. The students are compensated for their time in line with CoDesign Collaborative’s commitment to equity.
The Free Student Membership program provides students ages 13+ (future designers) with a free Membership during their time of study at no cost. It offers access to programming and a digital subscription to Unfold.
The Current is a virtual, student-led lightning talk series that highlights vital topics in design. Through these student-curated conversations, we met the emerging voices shaping the future of design and the creative leaders at the forefront of design impact.

Card to Culture

We believe that design should be accessible for all! In order to provide arts and cultural opportunities to those generally excluded by cost, we’re proud to partner with the Mass Cultural Council, in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector,  to offer the Card to Culture program. We offer FREE registration (a 100% discount) to people with EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare Cards for our virtual and in-person programming. View upcoming events. See the complete list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.

History

Founded in 2009, Design Museum Everywhere was created as a museum without walls. Aligning with the organization’s mission to share the transformative power of design with the public, Design Museum Everywhere engaged community through educational programs for kids and adults, special events, a weekly podcast, and physical and online exhibitions—including We Design, which highlights the voices of BIPOC, women, and gender non-conforming people in design, and Bespoke Bodies, which explores the history of the design and craft of prosthetics.
