Announcing Unfold 003: “Look Both Ways,” Guest Edited by Debbie Millman

To be published Spring 2027

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Design Icon Debbie Millman Named Guest Editor of Unfold Magazine Issue 003: “Look Both Ways”

October 29, 2026 — CoDesign Collaborative is thrilled to announce that acclaimed designer, author, educator, and podcast host Debbie Millman will serve as Guest Editor for Issue 003 of Unfold Magazine, to be published in Spring 2027. Titled “Look Both Ways,” the issue will explore the many ways in which words, text and information influence art, design, literature, music and all forms of visual communication.

In a world increasingly driven by immediate visual exchange and gratification, bold typographic expression has become the central currency of human communication. Millman’s Unfold issue will examine this relationship through long-form articles, a visual essay, and flagship pieces on the boundary between reading and looking, tracing street-level communication across decades of activism, investigating how personal identity and belief take physical form, how way-finding alters public space, and how packaging of consumer goods constructs trust before a product is touched.

Debbie Millman brings an extraordinary body of work to this collaboration. Named “one of the most creative people in business” by Fast Company and “one of the most influential designers working today” by Graphic Design USA, Millman has spent over two decades working at the intersection of design, storytelling, and cultural commentary. She is the author of eight books—including Why Design Matters and Love Letter to a Garden (2025)—co-founder of the School of Visual Arts Graduate Program in Branding, Editorial Director of PrintMag.com, co-owner of The Rumpus, an Executive Fellow at Harvard Business School, and a recipient of the AIGA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Shalini Prasad, Chair of Communication Arts at Lesley University will design the issue. With over twenty-five years of diverse industry experience—spanning architecture, corporate communications, marketing, advertising, and design agencies—Prasad combines her deep passion for storytelling with innate artistic and analytical sensibilities. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in New Delhi. After practicing as an architect, she specialized in Visual Communication and Graphic Design, earning a Master of Science in Design from Arizona State University.

Unfold 003 will anchor CoDesign Collaborative’s broader CoDesign Season: “Co-Designing Language: Who can read the systems they depend on?” This multi-disciplinary season will address how individuals and institutions depend on designed text and how language choices determine who gets to participate in civic systems.

CoDesign Collaborative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring social change through the transformative power of design. Unfold Magazine serves as its flagship publication, examining the impact of design on lived experience.
