Tune into another episode of The Current on April 30 with Parsons student Pallavi Dixit and Jennifer Kuo, Arts in Public Health Professional and Wellness Facilitator, to explore how we can reimagine museums as vital social and emotional infrastructures.

With social isolation on the rise, our museum spaces have the potential to serve as sites of healing and connection. This conversation reframes care as a core strategy, examining how it can shape the way we teach, design public programs, and build community engagement in museum spaces. Drawing on Jennifer Kuo’s extensive experience in social prescribing and the integration of arts and medicine, the lightning talk will discuss how to move beyond traditional metrics like attendance and foot traffic to prioritize a sense of true belonging and emotional well-being. Join us to learn how intentional design can transform cultural institutions into resilient spaces of care.

Their conversation will delve into:

  • Moving beyond the “archive” to view cultural spaces as essential hubs for public health and community connection.
  • How centering empathy and emotional safety can fundamentally change institutional programming, research, and design.
  • Shifting the museum’s definition of success from visitor numbers to the depth of human wellbeing and social prescribing.
  • Best practices for building programs that bridge the gap between the arts and health to support diverse community needs.
