SUMMARY:Professional Development: Dignified Futures 2026 (CHI)
DESCRIPTION:Professional Development: Dignified Futures 2026 (Chicago)\nA two-day convening of health and human services leaders\, social innovators\, futures thinkers\, and designers committed to centering dignity in complex systems.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dignified Futures is a two-day convening of health and human services leaders\, social innovators\, futures thinkers\, and designers committed to centering dignity in complex systems. The conference will take place March 18–19\, 2026\, at the Institute of Design at Illinois Tech\, Chicago. \nWe face an escalating tension between speed\, efficiency\, resource constraints\, and our capacity to partner meaningfully. In that tension\, design often abandons dignity. Dignified Futures invites participants to intercept that downward spiral—to create updrafts of possibility that pull us forward together. \nWhat Happens There Over two days\, the conference will include: \n\nWorkshops\, keynotes\, and ignite talks \nOpen Space sessions\, allowing attendees to help co-create the agenda in real time and lead emergent conversations.\nNetworking\, surprises\, and community building that empowers all to meet new people and knit new relationships.\n\nThemes & Focus AreasThe conference spans multiple design practices (e.g. futures thinking\, systems thinking\, experience design and innovation\, inclusivity and belonging\, participatory practice) and sectors including health & human services\, public health\, social innovation\, and equity in systems.  \nWhy It Matters \n\nTo recenter dignity in design\, reclaiming it as a fundamental point of focus rather than an afterthought.\nTo elevate emerging practice in designing systems that sustain health\, equity\, and social justice.\nTo forge cross-disciplinary partnerships and co-design actionable strategies rooted in lived experience.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n March 18-19\, 2026\nInstitute of Design at Illinois Tech3137 S Federal StChicago\, IL 60616\n \n \n \n \n \n Early-bird registration ends January 9\, 2026. \nCoDesign Collaborate Members register at a discounted rate! I’m pretty critical of these things—so many are rigid\, overly step-by-step\, or feel inauthentic. Others are too high-level with no practical takeaways. This one hit the sweet spot. \n Blake Goodwin\n Founder & President\, Proportion Design \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The “influence sphere” exercise was a standout—a sharp reminder to stay deliberate about where (and with whom) I invest my energy. I keep it in front of me as a daily reminder. \n José dos Santos\n Head of Design & User Experience\, Americas\, Signify US \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n To be honest\, the Inspirational Leader Scorecard alone is worth the price of admission\, but that is only the starting point.  \nUsing the scorecard as a diagnostic tool\, the class identified critical areas for improvement\, so that one can focus on addressing those areas that will make the greatest impact on one’s leadership. For example\, to prevent burnout\, I always try to keep the team’s physical and mental well-being mind. I was surprised to learn from the Scorecard that there was more I could do to energize my team\, and the class provided strategies to make that happen. \nThat’s just one example among many. The Masterclass was great\, and I highly recommend it to any leader interested in enabling their team to achieve peak performance! \n Alfred Kahn\n VP of Product Design \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Inspirational Leadership Masterclass was a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t just about strategy—it’s about how you show up. I left with practical tools I could use immediately\, like simple resets to bring more intention and inspiration into every meeting. \n Eliza van Gerbig\n Product & UX Manager\, Myriad Genetics \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Become a member to attend special events free of charge\, and get Unfold Magazine mailed twice a year.\nMembership starts at just $5/month.\n \n Join

SUMMARY:Workshop: Introduction to Visual Thinking Strategies (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop: Introduction to Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS)\nRegister for the virtual Introduction to Visual Thinking Strategies session\, which teaches the VTS facilitation methodology using visual stimuli.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register for a virtual Introduction to Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) session on Tuesday\, March 31\, 1 pm ET / 10 am PT with Hailey Group VTS@Work-certified facilitator Catherine Clarke. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding and comfort with utilizing VTS in the workplace and in their leadership practice. \nVisual Thinking Strategies is an inquiry-driven discussion methodology that uses visual stimuli to encourage participants to develop critical thinking\, observation\, and language skills. By analyzing visual images in groups\, participants learn to support their ideas with evidence\, listen to others\, and consider multiple perspectives. \nIn this 60-minute workshop\, facilitator Catherine Clarke will guide attendees by introducing VTS elements such as active listening\, finding comfort with uncertainty\, and creating an attentive\, open\, and inclusive space for all to contribute. \nIntroduction to Visual Thinking Strategies is not just for design and creative professionals. VTS has proven value across industries\, from business to healthcare and education. It is a skill that helps leaders move away from a “command and control” approach to unlock their team’s collective potential by fostering inclusivity\, psychological safety\, and collaboration in the workplace. Teams that practice VTS are better equipped to respond to projects\, peers\, or clients in critical work conversations with understanding and intention. \n \nParticipation is limited to 12 attendees.\n \n \n \n \n \n About Catherine ClarkeCatherine Clarke is a Manager of New Hire Experience at Fidelity Investments with a BFA in design from Northeastern University. She is a leader for Fidelity Enable\, an advocacy group for people with disabilities\, and a certified Visual Thinking Strategies @ Work Facilitator through the Hailey Group.
