SUMMARY:CoDesign LIVE | Things Become What you Call Them: Writing For Design
DESCRIPTION:CoDesign LIVE\nThings Become What You Call Them: Writing For Design\nJoin Mike Mooney for a virtual lightning talk that spotlights writing as a discipline that permeates the work of design-driven teams.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tune into CoDesign LIVE on February 25 at 12 pm ET / 9am PT for a virtual lightning talk with Mike Mooney\, Principal of Meant LLC\, on Writing For Design. Too often\, designers treat writing as a supporting skill—something already mastered and secondary to “real” design work. But inside interdisciplinary teams\, writing quietly does far more: it shapes strategy\, aligns stakeholders\, names problems\, and makes decisions durable. \nThis lightning talk reframes writing as a design discipline in its own right. Beyond copywriting or AI harvesting\, Mike explores how design thinking principles—prototyping\, constraints\, structure\, and collaboration—enlighten written work. In a world where content is everywhere\, thoughtful writing stands out. How might approaching story crafting through a design lens add perspective to your writing style? \n\n \n \n \n \n \n About Mike Mooney:\nMike is a writer and a strategist who operates at the intersection of brand strategy\, verbal branding\, and experience design to elevate brand storytelling. As a writer and principal at Meant\, Mike gives voice to brand\, marketing and design strategies in ways that help make hard things simpler\, new things more engaging\, and nuanced things more discoverable. His work building communications platforms for new-to-the-world products\, services and technologies includes engagements with market leaders and challengers\, as well as early and growth-stage startups\, across the healthcare\, consumer electronics\, industrial\, consumer\, high- tech and other sectors. Mike founded Meant in 2018 after leaving Catapult Thinking\, the interdisciplinary design consultancy he co-founded in Boston in 1998. Prior to Catapult he worked as a writer and information designer at Fitch (formerly Fitch RS\, but originally RichardsonSmith+)\, where he had an epiphany regarding creative writing as a catalyst for interdisciplinary design thinking. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, February 25\, 2026\n12–12:30 pm ET / 9–9:30am PT\nVirtual Lightning Talk\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Registration is required. \nFREE for Members\, Partners & Students!\nEmail the Membership team for help with the promo code.\n \n Register Now\n \n \n \n \n \n Speaker\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Michael Mooney\nFounder & Principal\, Senior Branding & Messaging Strategist\nMeant \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Become a member to attend special events free of charge\, and get Unfold Magazine mailed twice a year.\nMembership starts at just $5/month.\n \n Join

SUMMARY:The Current: Sustainable Fashion Policy
DESCRIPTION:The Current: Sustainable Fashion Policy\nJoin us for a virtual lightning talk with Parsons student Sofie Johansson and Dr. Joanne Brasch\, PhD\, on California’s groundbreaking bill holding producers accountable for the full lifecycle of their products.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join CoDesign Collaborative for The Current\, a virtual\, student-led lightning talk series highlighting vital topics in design\, on June 25\, 4-4:30 pm ET / 1-1:30 pm PT for a conversation on sustainable fashion policy with Parsons Design student Sofie Johansson and Dr. Joanne Brasch\, Ph.D.\, Director of Advocacy and Partnerships at the California Product Stewardship Council. \nTextile waste is the fastest-growing contributor to landfills\, with one garbage truck of textiles being landfilled or burned every second globally. The fashion industry accounts for 8% of global climate pollution from sourcing to disposal\, yet 60% of brands are currently behind on their sustainability targets. \nDespite the significant environmental impact\, there is limited policy literacy in the textile and fashion industry at large\, even as 87% of fashion executives anticipate regulation will impact their business operations. This creates a critical gap between awareness and action that needs to be addressed. \nAn important opportunity has emerged with California’s SB 707\, signed in September 2024\, establishing the nation’s first Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program for textiles\, creating a framework for producers to manage the full lifecycle of their products. Sofie and Joanne’s discussion will explore how to bridge the gap between static policy documents and living\, breathing implementation\, examining how stakeholder engagement and collective action can transform regulatory compliance from a checkbox exercise into a catalyst for meaningful systemic change. \nThis talk will explore the intersection of sustainable fashion and policy\, focusing on how designers can play an active role in shaping and implementing systemic change. Drawing from real-world insights and recent legislation like California’s SB 707\, the discussion will address: \n\nThe critical gap between awareness and action in sustainable fashion.\nHow stakeholder engagement can bring policy to life beyond compliance.\nThe role of designers in translating policy into practice within industry and community contexts.\nOpportunities to reimagine compliance as a catalyst for environmental and social transformation.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, June 25\, 2025\n4 – 4:30 pm ET / 1 – 1:30 pm PT\nVirtual Lightning Talk\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nFree for Students\, Members & Partners\n(see your email for the promo code)!\n$5 General Admission.
