Register for Human-Centered Futures in the Age of AI on December 16, from 1-2 pm ET / 10-11 am PT.

As AI reshapes the boundaries of creativity, design, and research, how can we stay grounded in what makes us human while shaping what comes next? In this 1-hour session, Amy Heymans, founder of Beneficent and former co-founder and CXO of Mad*Pow and CDO of UnitedHealthcare, will introduce frameworks that help creative professionals navigate uncertainty with purpose, compassion, and imagination.

Participants will explore The Five Cs of Strategic Design in the Age of AI—Clarity, Compassion, Curiosity, Creativity, and Coordination—alongside practical tools from human-centered design, systems thinking, and futures thinking. Together, these methods help designers, strategists, and researchers reimagine their roles as orchestrators of dignified futures.

Through real-world examples, attendees will learn how to:

  • Reconnect design work to purpose and measurable impact
  • Integrate dignity and ethics into product and service experiences
  • Use futures thinking to anticipate risks and imagine preferred futures
  • Collaborate with AI as a creative partner—without losing the human touch

Join us to explore how human-centered design evolves when imagination meets integrity, and discover how to design with futures thinking in an age of accelerating transformation.

About Amy Heymans

Amy Heymans is a strategist who works collaboratively to envision possibilities for people and organizations to grow and thrive, harnessing possibility in the age of AI. As the founder of Beneficent, she focuses her passion for health, financial wellbeing, social impact, and sustainability to help organizations to clarify their purpose, craft a bold vision, optimize their value proposition and go-to-market strategy, and transform internally to realize that vision. Amy is a big believer in learning and the power of community and networks to drive change, and so is dedicated to life-long learning, teaching, inspiring people through events, connecting people through collaborations, and sharing her inspirational message of designing a better world. Amy serves as Vice President of the board for An Orphan’s Dream and as a board member for CoDesign Collaborative.

Most recently, Amy served as Chief Design Officer of United Healthcare, focusing her team’s efforts on improving health experiences and outcomes. Before joining United Healthcare, she co-founded Mad*Pow in 2002 and nurtured its growth for 20 years to become a leading global strategic design consultancy focused on delivering positive social impact and business outcomes. At Mad*Pow Amy served as Chief Experience Officer, executive board member, and head of growth.

Her work empowering human-centered innovation with companies across the health and finance ecosystem has helped improve the experiences they deliver both inside and outside of the organization. She founded Mad*Pow’s Health Experience Design Conference in 2011 with the vision of connecting a community to discuss important topics and inspiring motivation in the direction of positive change. The Center for Health Experience Design, which Amy founded in 2016, served as a continuation of that objective in forging partnerships between large organizations with shared objectives and crowdsourcing innovation in exciting possibility areas.

Amy was honored to be named one of Mass High Tech’s Women to Watch in 2009, BBJ and MedTechBoston’s “40 Under 40” in 2014, PharmaVoice Magazine’s “100 Most Inspiring People” in 2018, and as an “Outstanding Woman in Business” by NHBR in 2022. As a speaker, Amy shares her vision at conferences around the world and she serves as an assistant professor in Massachusetts College of Art’s Master’s Program for Design and Innovation Leadership.
