Design Museum Mornings is coming to San Francisco! On Wednesday, May 17, 8:00-9:30 amPT, hosted at Insidesource, CoDesign Collaborative will present Common Space: Designing for Respite, Connection, and Belonging. This morning program is intended to celebrate the forthcoming publication of Design Museum Magazine Issue 025, The Common Space Issue. Join the museum and the Bay Area design community for coffee, networking, and a conversation with several contributors from the publication.
Common space is broadly defined as physical or virtual spaces in which communities gather around a shared purpose. The isolation we experienced due to the pandemic has both informed how our approach to common space has changed as well as demonstrated how much spaces for respite, connection, and belonging are critically necessary. In the discussion, each speaker will bring a unique perspective to how common spaces – ranging from parks, hospitals, and educational environments – are currently designed, are informed by their use, and when cultivated with intention, can fulfill people’s needs for reflection and community.
Common Space: Designing for Respite, Connection, and Belonging will feature a conversation with Shalini Agrawal, Founder, Public Design for Equity; Jennifer Devlin-Herbert, CEO, Partner at EHDD; Ravi Rao, Associate | Lead Interior Designer, Taylor Design; and Karen Robichaud, Strategic Communications Consultant and Guest Editor of Design Museum Magazine Issue 025. The conversation will be moderated by Rania Adwan, a former journalist, strategist, and independent consultant focused on transforming power structures.
This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are invited to arrive at 8:00 am PT. Virtual attendees are invited to join at 11:20 am ET/ 8:20 am PT for an opening design activity. The conversation will begin at 11:30 am ET/ 8:30 am PT.
